Grandview Nature Preserve is the perfect place for hiking and fishing, while Sandy Bottom Nature Park promotes environmental education through preservation of wetlands and wildlife. An ideal choice for families is Bluebird Gap Farm which features barnyard animals, petting zoo and playground.
Avid golfers will appreciate the meticulously maintained Hamptons Golf Course, a 27-hole championship course enhanced by the beauty of its natural surroundings. Encircling the course is the Matteson Trail, a 3-mile nature and fitness trail.

In celebration of Jamestown’s 400th birthday, Hampton is proudly sponsoring Explore Hampton 2007 with numerous special events taking place throughout the year.
For those interested in the arts, be sure to visit the Charles H. Taylor Arts Center which showcases regional and national artists, and the Hampton University Museum, the oldest African-American art museum in the country. For a more hands-on approach try the Phoebus Arts Factory for workshops and seasonal events.
To see everything from “the sea to the stars,” don’t miss a trip to The Cousteau Society waterfront gallery and the outdoor air and spacecraft displays of Air Power Park.
Historical sites
Explore Hampton’s rich heritage at more than a dozen sites, including Fort Monroe, the unique six-sided, moat-enclosed active Army base, and the Hampton University’s Emancipation Oak, where President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was first read to Hampton residents. Delve deeper into the city’s rich history at the ten permanent galleries of the Hampton History Museum.
